Hot Choice Taylormade R9 460 Driver Review
For a lot of golfers the Taylormade R9 460 Driver will be just what they have been waiting for. Unless you are a low handicap golfer you probably found the head of the standard Taylormade R9 460 Driver a little on the small side at 420cc. This is because that is the maximum size of head for moveable weight drivers. With the Taylormade R9 460 Driver, TaylorMade have removed this option and you just have the adjustable Flight Control Technology which allows you to adjust the angle of the face of the clubhead relative to the shaft. We prefer this kind of adjustability as it seems to have a greater effect on ball flight and in the TaylorMade Taylormade R9 460 Driver, it works well. With 8 different positions for the shaft, there should be one to suit you and the adjustment with the single screw and wrench is easy to understand and change.
The club is a little longer front to back than the Taylormade R9 460 Driver and is verging on being triangular shape but stop just short and still looks pretty good. As the weight is further back the flight is a little higher on average than the Taylormade R9 460 Driver but still penetrating. The Aldila Reax shaft is pretty good and is a normal length shaft even though it is 1 inch longer than the standard Taylormade R9 460 Driver shaft. As the head is bigger the sound is a little louder than the Taylormade R9 460 Driver, but don’t mistake this for less feel as we think the Taylormade R9 460 Driver feels just as good and despite being a bit pricey is one of the bess adjustable drivers in the market today.
Looks:
Larger than the original, the 460 doesn’t feature moveable weights which cuts out some of the variables. The size instills confidence as you’d expect, but the shape is still ‘New Classic’. So while I like the extra cc’s, I’m still not a big fan of the shape.
Feel/performance:
Wow! It really crushes the ball off the tee. With the face set to ‘L’, I averaged a good ten yards further with the 10.5-degree Taylormade R9 460 Driver cc than I did with the 10.5 Taylormade R9 460 Driver . I had to hit a lot of drives for a meaningful average to emerge but when it did, it was clear the 460cc was the better club for me.
Both the Taylormade R9 460 Driver and the Taylormade R9 sound powerful with that pleasing titanium smash that now characterizes all TM drivers. The Taylormade R9 460 Driver is clearly a great club from
