Boker Knives History

Due to the increasing demand for a new policy was restless, Hermann and Robert Boeker decided in 1829 to start production of sabers. From September 1830, records indicate a weekly production of 2,000 items, made by 64 smiths, 47 grinders and a large number of workers unskilled workers. Given the increasing variety of tools and cutting tools and good opportunities for sales in the world, the family realized that the various stages of manufacturing had to be distributed for the optimum realization of their interests. As a result, Hermann Boeker emigrated and founded H. Boeker & Co. in New York. Robert Young has developed its business in Canada, founding a subsidiary in Mexico in late 1865. This branch is still a market leader in its country under the name Casa Boeker.

Heinrich crossed the river Wupper and went about Solingen, where the German industry of cutting tools was growing by leaps and bounds in this time. In 1869, he founded Heinr. Boeker & Co. with Hermann Heuser, a renowned specialist in the field of cutting tools. Boeker family in Remscheid and their overseas cousins had a keen interest and strong demand for razors, scissors and knives of the new company Heinrich. They had to identify their products to foreign markets a simple way, since many customers and consumers had problems with the German name Boeker – not considering the fact that illiteracy is widespread. According Heinrich, chestnut, near the center of a represented Remscheid. ideal, easy to remember symbols This brand symbol was owned by the company Remscheid, along with a second Arrow logo. One of the few valuable documents that survived the total destruction of WWII is an ad Boeker, Remscheid, since 1874, showing the two logos.

The relationship between the two Boeker companies had always been very friendly. Therefore, Heinrich was allowed take the tree symbol across the river with him – without any fight or cost. Since then, no single Boeker article has left the factory Solingen without being marked by a tree. After more than 100 years of existence the old chestnut tree was struck by lightning. In 1925, an artist a copy of talent carved into a majestic tree stump. This original artwork to decorate the office of chief of the Boeker plant.

In 1900, most of articles produced by Boeker were distributed in the U.S. market. H. Boker & Co. in New York focuses primarily on cutting tools from Solingen. Soon pocket knives became more important than scissors, razor blades and utensils. The application grew even faster than Solingen was able to provide, so Americans in New York, started his own production knives. A little later, the clamps are also included. Since the tree symbol had made famous then, and the various branches of the international Boeker family has an excellent relationship with the other others, it was difficult to obtain permission from the family of Solingen to use the tree symbol also for U.S. products. Since then, two different lines of Boeker knives have been in the U.S. market with the symbol of the same brand, sometimes even with the numbers in the same article, but the line was made in the USA and the other in Solingen. Only the statement of merchantability said a U.S. online Boker and one H. Boker Improved Cutlery Solingen.

The relationship was interrupted during World War II. The factory Solingen burned. None of the equipment, tools, materials, catalog or samples are saved. The originals of some of the latest we have today survived the war at home and made available to the company. The company lost one of its most valuable assets: the registration of the tree symbol on the American market was seized under U.S. law. John Boker Jr. acquired it in New York, is to ensure the distribution of American and German products. Shortly after the war, the factory destroyed area was rebuilt. Leal expert workers who had survived the war, he returned and helped in the reconstruction of the building and production, recovering gradually the previous standard of quality.

The American cousins renewed their business contact with Solingen and started to place orders. In a few years Boker, New York, had become the main customer. Models like the 7588 and 7474 and the most expensive item, the knife 182 flagship model of sports could not cross the ocean fast enough to make friends across the country Boker.

In the 60s, Boker USA was sold and eventually acquired by the famous scissors manufacturer Wiss & Sons. Wiss retained the manufacture of Boeker knives and sold with Solingen products. Of course, this meant that the Boeker scissors ceased to be Wiss competitors online in the U.S. market. In the 70s, Wiss sold to Cooper Industries, a multinational company. This new change in the United States was advantageous for Boker.

A very close business and personal relationships developed with this industry giant. Because of its strength in the market, Cooper was able to restore The original grandeur of the Boeker name. Thanks to the bustling commercial activity with Cooper for eight years, the Solingen facility could streamline its production and development of new modern products. Without exaggeration, Boker manufactures the largest selection of high quality knives for sportsmen and collectors with an unsurpassed variety of materials for blades and handles. Boeker knives range from 320 today layers of Damascus steel modern ceramics, with handles ranging from high-quality mother of pearl to Thuya root wood and state of the art …

In 1983 Cooper discontinued its own knife production. Models still in demand today are Solingen. As result of friendly negotiations, Cooper restored the American trademark rights three years later, providing Solingen with the opportunity of self-confidence in the enormous U.S. the market. In 1986, Boker USA, Inc. was founded in Denver, Colorado. Dan Weidner, who has part of Boker USA for almost the beginning, is now president of the company, working with a young and energetic. The great importance of Boeker in the South American markets (Argentina and Chile) and Mexico is due to the men of the Boeker family, effective for us to be active in these countries in the ages 19 and 20. They now include the terms and Arbolito TREEBRAND. Since the Argentinian market in particular is Arbolito subject to sharp fluctuations in economic and political reputation was in danger of being forgotten. In 1983, Boeker Arbolito SA was founded jointly with the Salzmann family primarily to manufacture household and work knives in Argentina. Thanks to the constant modernization and expansion of product lines the company is Buenos Aires able to compete globally with a selection of current products.
