Watch Fringe Season 3 Episode 22 Online The Day We Died Megavideo, WiseVid, Zshare, DivxDen Streaming
Season 3 presents episodes that alternate between the two universes. “Walternate”,[5] Walter’s doppelgänger in the parallel universe, has set events in motion to assemble a doomsday device that reacts only to Peter’s biology. He has also send his Olivia, “Fauxlivia”, in Olivia’s place, to engage their Fringe division to assemble the prime universe’s version of the device, while he conditions Olivia to believe herself from of the parallel universe and coming to learn about her exposure to Cortexaphan. Olivia, having broken the conditioning, and Fauxlivia eventually return to their respective worlds, but not after Fauxlivia has become pregnant with Peter’s child. Walternate accelerates the child’s growth to acquire a blood sample from it to use to activate his device; quantum entangled with the device in the prime universe, its effects start to cause the same devastation there as the parallel universe has suffered. Peter ultimately is able to enter the prime universe’s device with Olivia’s help, finding himself fifteen years in the future.
Much of the story arc for Fringe involves a parallel universe that mostly mirrors the prime universe, but with numerous historical idiosyncrasies. The producers were strongly interested in “world building”, and the parallel universe plot device allowed them to create a very similar world with a large amount of detail to fill in the texture of the world. A parallel universe would also allow them to show “how small choices that you make define you as a person and can change your life in large ways down the line”, according to co-director Jeff Pinkner.[6] However, the producers also realize the concept of the parallel universe could be confusing to viewers and have introduced elements of the world in small pieces over the course of the first two seasons before the larger reveal in the second season finale and third season. J.H. Wyman stated that he would often pass the story ideas for the parallel universe by his father to see if it made sense, and would rework the script if his father found it confusing.[7] Such world building also gave them a risky opportunity to create stories that focused solely on characters from the parallel universe with nearly no ties to the main characters; as stated by Wyman, they would be able to “make two shows about one show”, a concept that the network executives embraced.[8] One of Fringe’s location titles, using block letters that float in the foreground. In this example, from “Olivia”, the show takes place in the parallel universe’s version of Manhattan, the borough’s name is actually spelled as “Manhatan”, reflected in this location identifier.
The parallel universe appears more advanced than the prime one; in the keystone second season episode “Peter”, which takes place primarily in 1985, the parallel universe is shown to have cell phones, and zeppelins appear as a common form of transportation.[6][9] In the show’s present (2009 and onward), John F. Kennedy is alive as an ambassador to the United Nations, and other figures like John Lennon and Martin Luther King, Jr. are also alive.[7] The United States in the parallel universe only consists of 48 states; while there exists a North and South Texas, other single states appear to take the place of two separate states in the prime universe, such as both North and South Carolina being the single “Carolina” in the parallel universe. Furthermore, much of western California has been lost, suggesting that a large earthquake along the San Andreas Fault has caused much of the coastal region to sink below sea level.[10] Other effects on the global scale have caused sheep to become extinct, and made coffee and avocados valuable rarities. The singularities that plague the parallel universe can lead to destructive voids; to prevent these, the Fringe division there uses a fast-setting amber-like substance to prevent weakened areas from becoming destructive, but with no regard for innocents that may be trapped within it.[6] A mass blight has affected vast areas of plant life, such as the area around Boston.[11] While the September 11 attacks still occurred in the parallel universe, only the White House and The Pentagon were attacked, and the World Trade Center remains standing.[9] Other changes exist in the parallel universe’s popular culture; Eric Stoltz stars in Back to the Future,[9] and the musical Dogs has replaced Cats as the longest running Broadway musical.[6][12] The show’s producers contacted DC Comics to create a series of parallel universe comic covers, slightly varying the original publications such as from Crisis on Infinite Earths and The Dark Knight Returns, and they were used/shown in the season 2 finale, “Over There”.
It looks like the two universes will stick around for a little bit longer. Yesterday FOX officially announced that Fringe was renewed for a full, 22-episode season 4, a somewhat surprising but very deserving early renewal.
When the show moved to Friday nights this year, FOX ran promos joking about how it didn’t mean Fringe was dead, and it looks like they were right. Friday night may mean certain death for most shows, but not this sci-fi cult hit.
The early renewal is also great for the show’s writers, who don’t need to worry about wrapping up all the storylines by the end of season 3. It means they’re free to end with another cliffhanger.
This is also a lesson other networks should take, giving either early renewals or early cancellations to sci-fi shows. ABC is still undecided about the fate of V, which ended with a pretty big cliffhanger. If the network cancels it now instead of several months earlier, fans will be left with absolutely no resolution instead of giving the writers a chance to wrap it up.
The same goes for NBC’s The Event, which has such anemic ratings that cancellation seems inevitable. But it would be helpful for the network to make it official before the writers finish the season so they can know for sure that they need to finish all the storylines.
But for Fringe, it just means that the fate of the two universes can be stretched a little longer. Let’s just hope they come up with better storylines in season 4 than this incredibly silly “Olivia possessed by William Bell” nonsense.
