Digging a trench with ground water?
I am digging a trench to install a land drain that will run into a sump pit.
The problem is that when I dig part of the trench the next day it’s full with water. The trench is running from a depth of 450 down to 950 with a sump at the end.
Am I now not sure what to do amount installing the land drain as there is some much water in the trench. I was planning of lining the trench, adding 50mm of gravel, laying the pile on, then fill the trench with gravel, re-turf.
I just don’t know if this will work as the water in the trench keeps coming back. This means the sump pit will also be full with water so there will be nowhere for the water from the land drain to drain.
PLEASE HELP!!
You have discovered the problem with sump pits. You will need to find another place for your sump pump to pump this water to for this project to ever work. At least you found out now, rather than in a rainstorm.
