Terrain Scissor

What are the Different Type of Scissor Lift Hire Options?
There’s a surprising amount of choice when it comes to hiring a scissor lift. Not just in the cost or length of your hire, but in the equipment itself. A scissor lift isn’t a one size fits all piece of powered access machinery. It is a name given to a wide range of different platforms all designed to perform in different environments and carry out their own tasks. So what exactly are your options?
The first variable is the size of the platform. Some are designed purely for one user and their equipment; others though have far larger platforms capable of taking two or even three operators and tools. This will have a bearing on price, but it is also important that you get equipment that will work in your environment.
For instance, if you need to work in a busy warehouse environment where space is limited and access is difficult, there’s no point in hiring the largest scissor lift available. In fact, just for this very scenario, there is an option to have a scissor lift that is no wider than your standard doorway. But of course, if you’re working outside or in a wide open space, this is probably going to be a far less important factor.
In fact you might be more concerned about the vehicle that is actually propelling the lift a little more. Many scissor lifts actually feature four wheel drive to ensure they can take on the roughest terrain. So if you are working on a busy construction site or even out in the country and need to get access to significant heights, this is certainly the equipment for you.
You’ll also have a choice over the way it is powered. Like most modern vehicles, there are battery powered versions available or those that rely on the slightly more muscular petrol / diesel combustion. If you are working outside or need to cover any significant distance, the petrol option will certainly be the best choice as it won’t suffer from the same reduced performance or regular need for recharging. However, in an enclosed environment, these fumes may not be to everybody’s taste – making the battery powered scissor lift a far more preferable alternative.
Whilst four wheel drive might be useful out on rough terrain, a scissor lift with non marking tyres will probably be useful for those working inside or anywhere else that might easily attract unwanted marks. Essentially, whatever the environment it is that you want to work in, there should be a scissor lift calibration that is ideally suited for you.
When it comes to hiring a scissor lift, each company will have their own rules and regulations. You’ll need to make sure that there is someone on site who is fully licensed for using it before being able to actually get it secured. There may even be limitations to the kinds of scissor lifts that they actually have on site, which is why it is important to find a specialist and make early enquiries – especially if you are targeting a particular type.
