Wood flooring in multiple rooms and hallway on second floor extended to top step of stairs?
I am getting ready to start a wood flooring project using 3/4 inch hardwood (2 1/4 inch width) and have a question or two. I did see a post that helped answer my question on how to transition from room to hall to another room using splines to reverse the direction of the tongues. My question is related to the hallway portion of my project. I would like to run the wood flooring to the top step of the stairs and use a stair nose piece at the end of the top stair to blend in with the rest of the hallway. How do I manage this? The stair nose piece has the groove on one side and the bull nose on the other side. How do you lay the previous pieces of wood flooring so that when you get to the stair nose you have the correct amound of space left to install this? I hope this makes sense. Thanks for your help!
The best way ( if possible) is to start there .. Best if you can to put a pc of the 2 1/4 there and use that as a tie in if your boards are running perpendicular to the stairnosing .Set the male end into the pc or just set a pc of spline into it and use the groove end into it.
There are times you just have to rip or cut off ends. Best if your able to use a router so it ll take a spline.
Don t forget to cut your sub floor over hand back flush with the riser. If you don t you ll have 2 problems, 1 is a tripping hazard going up the stairs because of the extra overhang of the nosing,2nd is with the sub floor overhang and the nosing overhand, its a weak spot for the nosing .
