Are you suppose to tip…?
the dog groomer? We took our dog to a pet store where they also do grooming. There was not a “tip” slot on the credit card receipt. Should I have given her cash? If so, a percentage or a certain amount?
Any time someone does a personal service it is proper to tip. The going rate varies depending on ones economical settings. Say, New Yorkers should be tipping a higher percentage than Wheeling, West Virginia. (I’ll get flap over that in that people will say a hamburger in NY costs $10.00 and a hamburger in W.VA only costs $3.00 so a 15% tip is fair for both – but – if you look at the annual income of both you’ll see most NY’rs can well afford 15% at any cost where as W.VA residents cannot.)
Anyway, my point is personal services receive a tip whereas commercial services do not. How to tell the diference, personal are things like house cleaning, laundry, manicures and hair cuts, pet upkeep (with the exception of Vet. visits),car washes and window washing, paper delivery by someone other than the post office and lawn care. Commercial are things like plumbing and heating, auto repair or maintenance, house painting (to include indoors) or roof repair and here is one that could be placed in either but it should be in commercial – carpet cleaners and layers. To purchase products in the pet shop no tip – to have someone perform upkeep on your pet – tip.
