Formwork with Concrete Construction
Formwork is the term given to either temporary or permanent moulds into which concrete materials are poured. The concrete pressure on formwork should be monitored carefully. The concrete formwork details must be analyzed properly so that the formwork systems are used beneficially. There are different formworks used in concrete constructions.
Traditional timber formwork
Traditional slab formwork uses timber, masonry and carpentry to complete construction. The method works through tree trunks or other lumber supporting rows of stringers which are placed three to six feet or one to two meters apart with joints placed between the stringers. The formwork is built on site out of timber and plywood or moisture-resistant particleboard. It is easy to produce but time-consuming for larger structures, and the plywood facing has a relatively short lifespan. It is also the most flexible type of formwork.
Engineered Formwork Systems
Engineered Formwork Systems This formwork is built out of prefabricated modules with a Steel frame and covered with concrete. Steel studs and joists are strong, lightweight, and made from uniform-quality material. Steel walls are straight, with square corners, and all but eliminate pops in drywall. Steel framing for fire safety and termite protection.
Re-usable plastic formwork
Using recyclable and reusable plastic forms instead of cardboard forms is simply better for the environment. A re-usable modular formwork comprising at least one panel having edge ribs and transversal ribs, each of the ribs comprising two parallel walls perpendicular to the formwork panel and preferably perpendicular to the walls of the rib and to the panel. Ribs are disposed along the perimeter of the panel and transversally to the panel.
Permanent Insulated Formwork
Permanent Insulating Formwork is a modern method of construction offering all the advantages of off-site construction without the logistical problems often associated with the transport and placing of heavy units. Permanent insulated formwork (PIF) is a building system made from interlocking hollow insulating elements that are similar to large Lego bricks. They act as permanent concrete formwork as well as permanent insulation.
Stay-In-Place structural formwork Systems
Concrete forms are stay-in-place formwork for building energy-efficient, cast-in-place, reinforced-concrete walls. These interlocking modular units are dry-stacked and then filled with concrete. SIP system are offering architects and engineers numerous advantages over competitive systems such as maximum flexibility, cost saving, and efficient time control in the various construction field; residential, commercial, industrial building and bridge as well.
