How to use polishing compound properly for swirl marks?
Hello, I bought some premium grade rubbing compound from turtle wax to remove swirl mark out of the black hood of my car. I followed the directions on the container but after I get done there are still swirl marks there, and it could be in worse condition than I started. I looked online and it is clearcoat safe so I assume I am just doing something wrong. The swirl marks aren’t real bad, they are not deep enough to put your finger nail in at all and can only be seen at certain angles in light. It still bothers me though so if anyone can tell me how to remove the swirls properly i would greatly appreciate it. Such as what should i use to apply it, how much pressure should i use (doing it by hand), how i should apply it, and so on. thanks in advance.
Rubbing compound is too coarse, which you found already.
Use Polishing compound or scratch or swirl remover, they are much finer grit. You need a new soft bonnet for your buffer and you might have to do some by hand.
Use glazing compound after this to finish the job.
