Plaster Pump

Energy Efficiency By Ductless Split Heat Pump

If you have a home that is old and has thick walls made of lathe and plaster, you normally have very hot summers due to the heat brought about by materials that does not have ductwork. No need to bear with this though since the technology is here and it is called ductless split heat pump. This innovation is your solution in the heat because this pipes refrigerant to split units throughout the house, therefore allow cooling in the home. There are differences between the traditional unit and a ductless split pump. The traditional units have only one coil and air handler inside the house and one outdoor unit with a condenser and compressor. The ductwork makes the air dispersed throughout the house.

What makes the ductless split heat pump unique is that though there is still the outdoor compressor and condenser, it still serves the different individual units placed around the house. Through small diameter individual lines, the refrigerant is sent everywhere inside the house. Each individual unit has a fan which blows the cool air into each room. Another benefit of this new system is the fact that this is more energy efficient. This is more specifically true if the traditional system’s ductwork is not insulated. In the old technology, energy loss can be as high as 30 per cent. When you are comparing this with the ductless system, energy loses are reduced to only about 5%. This is also beneficial to houses that need not be cooled as a whole but only in specific parts or rooms of the house. This system is also considerably easy to install than the traditional ones. Two installers a day can work on this and it will be finished. It only needs about a three inch hole for the refrigerant lines, control cables, and condensation drain. Design is also very flexible: it can be floor models, mounted on ceiling, or mounted on wall.

Conventional systems will of course need additional cost when you add duct work in the expenses. The cost of this is around the price of $500 and up per ton. The cost of an average ductless split heat pump may be around a few thousand and up. Included are 1 year warranty on indoor units and 3 to 6 years on compressors.
