how do i break piston rings in on a moped?
i have just put new piston rings on my 70cc moped, what do i have 2 do to break them in?
if it is 70cc it isn’t strictly a moped – they are under 50cc with pedal assist. No matter. If you’ve replaced rings, there must have been a reason, and let’s assume it was blow-by or lack of top compression. Did you glaze bust the bore, with a cross hatch honing tool, or was that not necessary due to the Nickasil liner or chrome bore. Various things to consider then.
In general, new rings or any top end work requires a certain amount of plastic deformation to bed in and achieve best fit and running longevity, so an easy throttle hand for a few miles is indicated, gradually increasing load and revs up to say 200 miles should help. But I feel you may have missed some vital points in your question.
