Pipe Threading

threading pvc pipe?
I’m installing underground irrigation. I see at the store, they offer PVC pipe nipples in various sizes about every inch. Is it possible to cut your own threads on standard PVC so you can make a length as long as you’d like? Can I simply use a standard 3/4″ NPT die? Lubricant required?

Yes you can thread PVC pipe, if you need to. You MUST use Schedule 80 PVC and can use a regular pipe threader. Schedule 80 PVC is usually dark grey in color. It is the same dimension on the outside as Sch. 40 PVC, so normal PVC fittings will work with it, but recommend using Sch. 80 fittings. Alot of times it is just easier to use a male adapters and make your own pipe nips. Hope this helps! Good luck!
