What Criterions Are Used to Select Right Pipe Fittings?
If you are about to start a pipe fitting selling business, you have to learn about the criterions people use to buy right type of pipe fittings. This will help you to choose the right supply from the pipe fittings manufacturers.
Type of Application
One of the most important criterions is the type of application. For example, the food, beverage and dairy industries use special types of fittings called dairy fittings. Butt weld fittings, forged pipe fittings and flanges and other popular fittings are used for industries like chemical and petrochemical industry, oil and gas industry, sanitation industry, irrigation applications and so on. Hydraulic and pneumatic fittings are other popular applications in which these accessories play a useful role.
Type of Setting
Another criterion used for the selection of fittings is the type of setting they are used in. For example, Tee Fittings are used where three pipes are to connect with one another. Other types of fittings are those used to change the direction of the liquid or fluid carried by the pipes. There are different fittings to connect the bores and pipe sections. Besides, there are fittings used to close or seal the pipes.
Type of Connections
In general, there are two types of pipe fitting connections – threaded and slip fit, each divided into male and female sub-types. The selection of right type of pipe fitting is based upon the type of connection required for the pipes. For example, there are fittings with threaded or slip fit ends. However, there are fittings with one end threaded and other designed for slip fit.
Type of Material
Again, the selection of a pipe fitting material depends upon the type of application. For example, aluminum fittings are used where good electrical and thermal conductivity is required. Copper fittings are best suited for plumbing applications. PVC and CPVC fittings are useful where high temperature range exists. Corrosion resistance and strength is provided by steel fittings.
Other Criterions
Size and thickness are other criterions used for the selection of pipe fittings. Besides, some people purchase these fittings on the basis of standards and codes set by different organizations.
