Mason Twine
Shipping sourdough starters?
Today I went to a heritage festival and bought a few sourdough starters to send to some of my out-of-state- friends. I just have no idea how to go about it or if it is even safe to mail them. They are packaged in mason jars but covered by saran wrap and cloth and tied together with twine, not sealed by lids. Should I remove the saran wrap and replace it with a lid? Is it safe to mail the starters (They would be going to Alaska and North Carolina.)? Do you have any tips or suggestions to make mailing safe and easy? I don’t want the starters to go all over, and I certainly don’t want my friends getting sick. I would also like to keep them in the mason jars if at all possible.
