Marble Stone
Has anyone worked at an ice cream place like marble slab, stone cold, or ben & jerrys?
I’m working part time and I would like a second job, i love marble slab and it looks like fun. I was wondering what it’s like working at these places, what they pay (i’m assuming min. wage), and do you really have to sing at cold stone because that’s the one thing that makes me not want to apply there! the website says they audition you during the interview.. is that true? and anything else you want to share about your experience working here would be great!

I live in Michigan, Marble Slab isn’t really big here but there’s a lot of Cold Stones. I just left there because I got a waitressing job (way better money) but worked there since April of this year till early August. It was ok. We made minimum wage, which sucked, and the hours weren’t that good… I worked like five days a week, sometimes six, and I was almost always scheduled for night shifts on weekends, which sucked because I have a social life. Closing sucks, especially in the summer on Fridays and Saturdays because we don’t close till 11pm then, and then we have to clean (sweep and mop the floors, take out the trash, do dishes, etc etc etc) and we won’t be done till around midnight.
Some Cold Stones aren’t big on singing. At the one I worked at, if it was a slow day like a week day and there weren’t a lot of customers or employees we wouldn’t sing if we got tips. On a busy night where there were like 10 of us working and we got a tip, we’d sing and it’s really not that bad… it’s actually kind of fun when there’s like 9 other workers with you and you get more tips that way.
At my addition they made us sing, but it wasn’t that bad because there were like ten other kids at the audition and you had to sing a song and other people had to guess what it was from (like a TV show or something) so you’ll only be singing for a couple seconds and someone will guess what you’re singing.
I’d say if you’re 15-17 and this is your first job then Cold Stone is good, but if you already have job experience go for something else. The good thing about Cold Stone was the people I worked with… the other employees. I met some really great people, on Fridays and Saturday nights when there’s a lot of us working we’d go out to a Coney Island restaurant that’s open 24hrs and all go out to eat… it would be really fun.
