Joist Hangers and drywall ceilings?
Going to drywall 10 and 8 foot ceilings in garage. Open truss right now on 10′ post and frame building, which means , 2X6 truss is 10 feet apart. Room is 30 across by 20 deep, which means I have two end truss and one middle truss to work with.
Need to add cross joists to hold 4X10 and 4X8 drywall ceiling sheets. Quesion: How will use of metal joist hangars affect the edges of drywall where they meet at the 10 foot truss? Will this create a problem for the taper and mudder? Specific instructions welcomed. I hate the idea of toenailing the cross joists and expecting them to hold a 69 pound 4X10 piece of sheetrock.
As others have said, it is not really a problem if the ceiling joists are not perfectly flush when you hang drywall. Mounting the hanger over a metal plate can be a problem. Easily solved, simply securely nail a short piece of wood over the plate and attach the hanger to the piece of wood. Several nails long enough to go through the piece you nail on and the truss chord, clinch on the other side.
The weight of the ceiling may be a problem. Trusses in this type of building are generally designed for no ceiling load. At 30′, I doubt it would fall in, but the drywall will probably crack at some point.
