This unit features a larger screen but not one so big that it dominates the entire room, but the fifty five inches of space are not wasted by the LED-LCD technology. The vibrant colors jump off the screen and the 240hz refresh rate and true 1080p high-definition make sporting events and fast paced action movies look as realistic as possible. The picture rivals just about every other HDTV around, and often exceeds them.
The Toshiba 55WX800 is also a 3D capable television, which means a 3D capable Blu-Ray player and compatible 3D glasses are necessary to enjoy perfect three dimension effects right at home. The recommended 3D glasses for this particular unit are model Toshiba FPT-AG01U and retail for around $170 a pair and use an easily replaceable 3V coin type battery. While going for a three dimensional home theater may be a touch more expensive than traditional HDTV, the technology can upgraded in steps to help offset the cost. Of course, once the transition is complete, the movies and television shows experienced in 3D will literally jump off the screen and often leave the jaws of the viewers on the floor.
Still, the Toshiba 55WX800 features four HDMI ports, a component video input, two USB ports, an Ethernet port, and a digital audio port. Of course, the HDMI ports are necessary to connect virtually every high-definition components to the television. The Ethernet port is necessary for connecting this Toshiba to the internet; however, it is completely unnecessary as this unit comes Wi-Fi ready with no additional adapter to purchase. So just a few clicks of the remote are all that is necessary to get the Toshiba 55WX800 connected to the home network and the vast library of content available on the internet. Of course, a wide range of applications are also available, including Netflix, Twitter, Yahoo!, Facebook and many more. This is truly an HDTV that can alter viewing habits and enhance the television experience for anyone.
