pipes welding vs using fitting !!!?
I am a fire fighting contractor & the used to design my project be this way :
for branch pipe with a diameter less that the main pipe’s half diameter , i use welding to joint them .
and if the branch pipe diameter is more than the main pipe’s half diameter , i use fittings ..
pipes type : seamless black steel schedule 40
the consultant wants all the pipes joinings to be fitted , unless i gave him a code or standard supporting my method !!!
the problem is : I don’t have it , even i don’t know where to look , ,,, so please help me as much as you can , no matter how small would be your information ….. thanks in advance
It sounds like you are fabricating piping that will be handling water at reatively low pressure (less than 250 psi). It is not uncommon to use stubin connections for branch connections in such a system.
I assume the NFPA has some standards for the construction of fire water systems. Here is a reference for them which I believe is also an ANSI standard:
