Firebrick Refractory

What type of mortar do I use for a wood fireplace brick?
The fireplace is over 80 years old and the mortar between the bricks is missing or crumbling. I know portland cement based mortars will crumble in time as well but I can’t find a suitable mortar. The gaps in the brick are at least 1/4 inch thick by several inches deep so refractory cements don’t work. Also, I would like the final joint to be buff colored like the firebricks. Thanks in advance for the help.
You can use regular mortar, but a refractory type mortar made specifically for pizza ovens and fireplaces is more durable for this location.
