Drywall Equipment?
I plan on drywalling my basement. I was told screwing drywall was better than nailing. Should I purchase/rent a drywall screwdriver or is there a better option?
If you only plan to drywall your basement, then I would use a cordless drill / driver with an adjustable clutch. That way you can adjust the torque at which the driver stops driving and get consistent control when driving drywall screws. And you’ll have a cordless drill for lots of other jobs around the house.
A drywall screwdriver is a specialized tool that you should get if you plan on driving thousands of screws, or go into the trade.
One sheet of drywall needs about 38 screws (on 12″ spacing around perimeter plus 2 studs on 16″ centers.) You can figure how many sheets of drywall you are installing – there are 32 square feet for 4×8 sheet, or 40 sq-ft for a 4×10.
