Refraction of light physical problem that had the answer, but I do not understand why?

Please explain to me why they are using the index of refraction of a vacuum (= 1.00 nA) 1) the index of refraction of a diamond red light, 656 nm, is 2.410, while for the light blue, 434 nm, is 2.450. Let the white light incident on the diamond of 30.0 °. Find the angles of refraction of the red and blue light. ^ -1 sine [(1.00xsine [30 °])/( 2410)] = 12 ° for red breast ^ -1 [(1.00xsine [30 °])/( 2450)] = 11.8 °

They use the index of refraction a vacuum, as Snell's law requires two refractive indices, N1 and N2. Usually when you ask a question like this assumes that the refractive index first is that almost the air, but air and vacuum the same index of refraction – differ less than the precision given here two decimal places. If assumne n (air) = 1, not far from the truth.
