how do i run 220 through a 110 outlet?
i want to run 4 ballasts on 2 outlets. the ballasts are switchable from 110-220 and are 1000w each drawing 9amps on 110 and 4.5 on 220. have a 30 amp dbl pole breaker feeding 10-3 wire to a junction box where it splits to 12-3. the male plug ends on the ballasts are 3 prong 110 style which is why i need to use the 110 outlets, but how do i wire the receptacle? and will this application work?
Don’t do it. If you send 220 to an outlet designed for 110, then someone is going to get hurt. Outlets are keyed to their voltage and current capacity. If you put 220 on a 110 outlet, someone will plug in a 110 TV set or appliance and blow it up.
Plus you’ll be in code violation which will probably prevent you from collecting insurance if the house burns down.
You can make it work, but I won’t tell you for liability reasons and for the above two reasons.
