All about Bolts
Bolt is one kind of fasteners with threaded which is matched with nut cylinder. It is composed by the head and screw (with external threads cylinder), and it need to corporate with the nut, beside, it is used for fastening two parts with through-hole. This form of connection called bolt connection.
According to different classifications, they can further be divided into many different types. For example, if it is classified according to the stress way of the connection points, it can be seen as ordinary use bolt and articulation hole use bolt. And the articulation hole use bolts should cooperate with the dimensions of aperture to, and it’s usually used in the condition of transverse force.
There are hex head, round head, square head, countersunk head bolts if they are divided according to head shape points. Round head also can twist parts. Square-toed tight force could be some bigger, but the size is also very large. And the hex head is the most commonly used among all of them.
As the important mechanical part, bolt plays a very crucial part in the automobiles. The car starter is the device that allows an engine to fire and begin turning its pistons. If it fails, the car will not be able to start or run. And in a car engine, the starter bolts secure the starter in place near the transmission. As a result, the bolts that secure the starter within the car must first be removed if you want to repair the broken starter.
There are many instructions for you to refer to when you repair the car starter. But you should know that different models of cars may have different styles of starter bolts. Now let us take one model as an example. The following are some steps for removing the starter bolts from a Toyota.
First of all, you should locate the bolts. Usually they are on the back side of the starter and, while they can often be seen from the front, can only be accessed from the rear. You should climb underneath the car in order to reach them.
Secondly, you can use a socket wrench which can help you to grip the bolts better and will reduce the risk of damaging the bolts during removal. After then, you can oil the bolts if needed because the penetrating oil or lubricant can be used to loosen the bolts if the socket wrench is too hard to turn.
Thirdly, if the heads of the bolts have been rounded by either corrosion or from being stripped as a result of being taken out and reinstalled too many times, the socket wrench may not be able to turn them. Under this situation, you may have to do with a vise grip. Clamp the needle-nose portion of the vise grip over the head of the bolt so that it is snug and the rounded head will not be able to slide in either direction.
