Concrete cubes failed after 28 days?
I do have 9 cubes of concrete which averaged 32 N/mm2 when crushed after 28 days. The design Compressive strength is supposed to reach 35 N/mm2. The cubes were mistakenly not cured for the first five days so I am sure that the reason of failure is the lack of proper curing. However, is there any clause in the ASTM or BSI that helps me convince the Engineer that the concrete is fine without going through things like core test…etc? He knows but needs documents!!

Without knowing exactly which of the thousands of ASTM and BSI test procedures are in question, it is only possible to answer this question based on logic. (We need documents, too.)
So, with our limited information, we’re looking at average vs. maximum. Was this a time compression test, in which case the compressive strength might have varied for individual blocks, perhaps hitting a maximum of 35 while averaging out at 32 N/mm2 ?
If it’s a simple load test yielding one value for each cube, you’ve got some cubes out of spec., and the concrete is not fine.
Anyway, concrete cures via a chemical reaction. They aren’t baked. How could the cubes have not been cured for five days? Molecules got lazy?
