Finish basement by gluing rigid foam against blocks, then gluing drywall against foam. Any problem with this?
Finish basement by gluing rigid foam against blocks, then gluing drywall against foam. I don’t want to drive nails or screws into the masonry because I will be using sealer on it and if I put a nail thought it the water will have a channel. Will the glue be “strong” enough over the years to keep everything together and in place?
Big Problem.
First the glue will not hold to the to the concrete block.
Second the glue will not hold or will tear out of the foam.
Third the GWB will not hold to the Foam.
GWB glue will eat the foam like pouring gasoline on it
Forth moisture will become trapped behind the foam and
rot the GWB making it soft and crumble.
Check the “R” value of rigid foam per inch and then chose a better insulation.
The only way to finish your basement is to fur it out….with either wood or metal studs and four inches of real insulation.
