My teacher gave me a final review packet with multiple choice questions, and here are some that I got wrong. So can someone explain the following? [The answer is in brackets]
1. What is the partial pressure of oxygen if a mixture of gases contains 20 moles of oxygren, 79 moles of nitrogen, and 1 mole of argon and the total pressure is 101 kPa? [20.2 kPa]
2. 1/10 of a mole of Ba(OH)2 is dissolved in water to make one liter of solution. Which species has a concentration of .20M? Ba(OH)2(s) -> Ba^2+(aq) + 2OH^-(aq). [OH-]
3. What is the pH of a .001 M solution of KOH? [11]
4. Why can zinc be used as an expendable metal to prevent iron from rusting in water? [Zinc loses electrons more easily than iron]
Lastly, can someone explain the affects of _____ on a system at equilibrium?

according to the Raolts Law …
P=P0 * x
where
P is the partial pressure
P0 is the total pressure of the mixture…
x is the mole fraction….
now…
we have to calculate P
and we are give P0 as 101 KPa…
to calculate mole fraction we can say that…
x=20/79+1+20
x=0.2
(as we have to calculate the partial pressure of o2)
now using the Raolts Law…
P=101 * 0.2
P = 20.2 KPa….
thus this is the answer….

Zinc is used …to prevent rusting of iron….
i will explain u the mechanism……….
Zinc is used as a sacrificial protection that is covering iron with more active ( electropositive) metal preventing iron from loosing electrons………..
In other words,
this process is called as Galvanization………..
The layer of Zinc on the surface of iron ….when it comes in ontact with the moisture Co2,O2….in the air………..
an invisible protective layer of ZnCo3.Zn(OH)2 is formed/………okay……..
so this helps in preventing rust………

If u increase the pressure,the equilibrium will shift
according to Le Chatellier principal to oppose this change so
hence it will toward ths side which has less number of moles in balanced chemical equation.as equilibrium shifts towards ammonia by increasing pressure……….
Make sure that the term equilibrium constant depends only on temperature….where as equilibrium depends on the factors which i have explained above………
