Can you show me how to do this torque problem?
A uniform rod is pivoted at its center and a small weight of mass M = 5.29 kg is rigidly attached to one end. You may neglect the size of the weight and assume it is located right at the end of the rod. What vertical force, Fv, must be applied to the opposite end to keep the rod at an angle of q = 37° to the horizontal?
(the mass is at the bottom end of the rod)
I don’t know how to do this without the length of the rod…
I think the only way you can go is to say that the gravity force on the mass M is 5.29 . 9.8 = 51.8 N and to keep the rod balanced in any position would require a force of the same size ( if its acting at the same distance from the turning point).
So 51.8 N is what you need. The 37˚ is irrelevant.
