Sagging support beam (in a “V” shape)…supports exterior wall of second level…?
Our home has a beam which is sagging in a “V” shape. It is supporting the exterior wall of the second level (a colonial). The home was built in 1968 and the beam spans at least 22 feet (we’re assuming some idiot took a support wall/post out at some point) Without opening up the drywall and looking at the beam itself, what do you suppose is happening and how do you suppose we should fix it.
Hi Mandy, 22 feet is one heck of a long span. I also think you’re right on in your suspicion that a support wall was removed. It’s really time to have a knowledgeable carpenter over for a nice cup of coffee and a good long chat…………
