Anyone familiar with ASTM pipe std. A53?
Hi.
Can someone help me with the ASTM A53 Std. This is due to an issue raised by a contractor. On the said std, it is mentioned in the scope that “this specification covers seamless and welded black and hot dipped galvanized steel pipes in NPS 1/8 to NPS 26, (6mm to 650mm)”. My query is, does ASTM A53 only suitable up to 650mm? Because we have a DCS project where we specified a 900mm pipe to conform under ASTM A53 Grade B.

There is no reason to not manufacture steel pipe in 900 mm diameters using a material specification equal to that of A53 ;however it you can not have it seamless in this size.
I am not up to date on what the appropriate specification needs to be but if you were to check with some pipe suppliers, you can find what is available that is equivalent to A53 grade B in that diameter.
I do know that the A53 spec overlaps some other specifications such as A106 and API 5L as I have seen pipe with mill marking for all three specifications stamped on it.
